Bank of America support for emergency assistance

Brunswick Family Assistance (BFA) would like to recognize Bank of America Charitable Foundation for its generous support of Brunswick Family Assistance’s emergency assistance programs. BFA is dedicated to improving the lives of families and individuals in crisis in Brunswick County, by providing financial assistance, educational and skills development programs. BFA’s vision is to ensure all Brunswick County residents have access to an adequate supply of food and sufficient resources to sustain themselves.

The partnerships with charitable foundations, service groups, and churches, in our community like the Bank of America Charitable Foundation make it possible for Brunswick Family Assistance Agency to continue the level of support we strive to provide to those in need in our community (at or below 130% of the federal poverty level). Bank of America Charitable Foundation awarded BFA $7,500 for operating support to fund life sustaining emergency assistance such as rental assistance, emergency shelter, utility assistance, the emergency food pantry as well as general operations. The partnership with Bank of America extends much further than funding for operating support, bank employees also volunteer with BFA’s Christmas program packing/sorting and distributions.

“Bank of America’s partnership with Brunswick Family Assistance aligns with our longstanding commitment to economic mobility, providing basic needs and other assistance for the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Derek Cohen, Coastal NC President for Bank of America. “We recognize the private sector can play a pivotal role as we continue to navigate this time of increased need together.”

In 2020, BFA provided 230,000 pounds of food to 18,117 individuals from our emergency food pantries, 6,415 individuals through our “commodities” food program and just over $400,000 in financial assistance (including rental assistance, emergency shelter, utilities, etc.) to nearly 15,000 individuals and Christmas to 1,683 individuals who otherwise may not have had anything to wake up to Christmas morning.

Brunswick Family Assistance Agency values the continued support from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation and looks forward to partnering for years to come. BFA thanks Bank of America and bank employees for the financial support and volunteerism to assist with providing life sustaining programs for community members.
