Brunswick Family Assistance hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on April 18 at Shallotte Presbyterian Church. The breakfast was catered by Jerome’s in Shallotte and the West Brunswick Show-Choir provided all the volunteers with entertainment.

Terry Mathews and Ronnie Markum, honored as Volunteers of the Year, were presented with a plaque to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Students from the South Brunswick High School Occupational Course also joined in on festivities. These students show up to every commodities and Christmas distribution not only ready to work hard, but display the most positive attitude about giving back to the community. BFA presented each student and their teachers with a certificate along with a gift bag of goodies.

For the graduating seniors who have been with them for four years, BFA wanted to do something special. In addition to a certificate and gift bag, each received a letter of recommendation they can use as they move forward in their lives and careers.

“It is only with the faithful and selfless gift of time and financial contributions that each of volunteers and community partners give to the organization that BFA is able to ensure that they do not neglect the less fortunate individuals and families in the community,” executive director Stephanie Bowen said in a news release. “There is no way to fully express gratitude to each on of them, including individuals, the N.C. Department of Agriculture, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, The Cape Fear Memorial Foundation, The Catherine Kennedy Foundation, the faith-based community and many others.

“Those at BFA are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity that each of them bestow upon the community. This breakfast is just a small token of its appreciation for such all amazing group of people!”
